Notes on Lì dove l'ombra appare (There where the shadow appears)
For years I've been practicing a territory where the creative act takes input from the relations among various disciplines,
from writing to image, to sound.
It is in this world of relations that are on the first place of an emotional kind, that the technical information,
numerical data and behaviours are grafted. They produce a second place which wouldn't mean much if it wasn't also suited
to take part in a sensitive world.
Place is the geography of an expanded corpus: it lies beyond meaning and memory, in fact it is the forgetfulness and the reinvention
of biography and of knowledge.
In every place there is work to be done: to succeed in watching the countenance of time, to remain in that space that links instant with duration.
I say sometimes that I'm interested in that technology which preserves the poetic memory of modern man. To this I can add the act of creation which
includes a space of "not-knowing" that is able of contemplating the techno-logical abilities of the machine as one of nature's wonders.
There, at the meeting point of different worlds, a new one is born, a middle place where things are at one time affection and logic, poetry and number.
This place is also moving and it isn't by nature equidistant, on the contrary it is moving by nature, and only if I myself am moving am I able to find it.
Like instant and duration it appears to be living in the mystery of the shadow.
Thatęs how I talk about this work:
Lì dove l'ombra appare ... moving, it is transitory, it has its own age: the age. that stays in the middle.
It is maybe the lightest tessera of a mosaic whose pieces can be found in other works of mine: Innesti_dialoghi sulla natura e sul tempo and
Stanze d'Ascolto have been, like this latest one, variations on a same amorous dictation, consisting mainly on poetic looks that are never descriptive,
on a narration made up entirely of omissions, on a body hindered to the harmony of dance, on power and rhythmical suspension.
As a place it has no centre but nerve peripheries of forms; as a place it isn't a complete theatre but an open scene of signs, it is nerves and map.
With a rhythm that foolishly jumps to and from in time.
Lì dove l'ombra appare sings of a beginning and of an end in the foolish ways of a prophetic writing.
In this journey I'm accompanied by the accustomed act of looking: at childhood and at memory, at the history of one as unity of all,
and I'm accompanied by the accustomed blindness, that which lies between life and death, between one childhood and another.
Modesty is drained through the fingers and turns time into a caress that has hardly any weight° I'd like to be able to watch it and I cannot watch it, Ięd like to be able to say it and I cannot say it°
This work marks a failure° a liminare of sense° a life-saving surrender°
I failed there where I couldn't.
That's how I talk about this work° the caress, the caress remains.
